Instructions

Watch the video in this post! Since there are several folds, it’s much easier to follow along with the video. Pause and rewind as much as you’d like to slow down the steps.

Generally, you will follow these steps below:

Step 1: Start With a Square

Begin with your black paper, making sure it’s a perfect square (15cm x 15cm works best).

Step 2: Fold Diagonally

Fold the paper diagonally into a triangle, then unfold. Repeat with the opposite corner. You’ll now have two diagonal creases.

Step 3: Create the Base Shape

Fold the two sides into the center line, forming a kite shape. Crease well.

Step 4: Fold in Half

Fold the entire kite shape in half lengthwise, making a slim rectangle.

Step 5: Shape the Wings

Gently pull open the folds and press the center upward so the wings begin to spread apart. You’ll see the bat’s body forming in the middle.

Step 6: Add Wing Details

Fold the wings back and forth in accordion-style folds to create the bat’s wing ridges.

Step 7: Add Eyes

Glue on two googly eyes for a playful finishing touch.

Once you’re done you can move them back and forth with your fingers to make they fly!

  • Scatter them on the table as fun décor.

These bats are simple enough for kids but look impressive when displayed. Plus, they’re mess-free compared to many other crafts. All you need is to fold paper!
