Gingerbread House Craft – Instructions
(we recommend watching the video in this post for step by step instructions)
1. Print the Template
Print the gingerbread house template on regular paper.
It includes the door, window, frosting pieces, and peppermint candy and gumdrop shapes you’ll need.
2. Make the House
Take the brown A4 size construction paper.
Fold the house in half horizontally.
Fold both sides inward to make “doors” that open.
Fold down the angled top sections to form the roof.
Smooth all creases well so the house opens easily.
3. Add the Door
Cut out the bigger door template and trace it onto white paper and the smaller door on dark brown paper.
Glue it onto the left flap of the house that is the centre.
Add a tiny circle for the doorknob (included on the template), or draw it with a marker.
4. Make the Window
Cut out the window template and trace it onto white paper and the inner part of the window on dark brown paper.
Glue the inside brown parts of the window on the white part.
Glue the finished window onto the right flap.
5. Add Frosting “Icing”
Cut the scalloped frosting shapes from the template.
Trace them onto white paper and cut them out.
Glue the frosting pieces:
- Under each roof flap
- Along the bottom edge of the house
This gives the house the classic gingerbread look.
6. Decorate the Front of the House
Cut tiny circles using the candy dot template.
Trace them onto red, green, and white paper.
Glue these “gumdrop” dots around the house for decoration.
7. Create the Peppermint Candy
Use the round peppermint template along with its curved swirl pieces.
Trace the circle onto white and red construction paper.
Glue the red circles onto the white circles overlapping each other in a circular way to make a peppermint.
Make two more and glue one in the centre, and the other two on the sides under the roofs.
8. Open the Card to Draw the Inside
Open the gingerbread house card.
Inside, draw a simple stick-figure family or any holiday message you love.
Kids can personalize it however they like!
