How to make Potato Masher Chick Craft  – Easter Craft for Kids

  1. Preparation: Begin by covering your crafting area with newspapers or a tablecloth to keep it clean. Pour some yellow paint onto a plate or a paint palette.
  2. Creating the Chick Body: Dip the potato masher into the yellow paint, ensuring the entire surface is covered. I like to do a few test prints to release the paint so it’s not too gloppy. Press the potato masher onto white cardstock paper firmly to create a chick body. You might need to wiggle it a bit to get a good impression. Lift to reveal your chick shape. Make as many imprints as you’d like.
  3. Adding Details: Once the yellow paint has dried, cut out some orange wings from paper and add googly eyes. You can also draw feet and hair on top! Kids can get creative here by using other items like feathers!  Use additional paint colors or construction paper to add decorative elements. You can create Easter eggs, flowers, or any other festive designs.
  4. Message: With a marker write a “Happy Easter” on the art or any other message you’d like.

Tips:

  • Consider using various potato masher sizes to create chicks of different sizes..
  • For a group activity, have each child make one chick and then combine them to create a flock on a larger piece of paper.
  • Turn this craft into a greeting card by folding the construction paper in half and decorating the front.
