Most steps to this homemade lunch bag craft are simple and easy to do but if your child needs help, it might be with making the arms and legs look equal and uniform.

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE THIS PENGUIN VALENTINE LUNCH BAG

Step 1: Prepare the patterns by printing and cutting them out. Trace the patterns on the selected craft papers and cut them out nicely using scissors. The template is customized for A4 size paper. If you are using a larger lunch bag you can simply do a free hand drawing of the patterns, it’s super easy to copy.

Step 2: Take the inner body part of the penguin and stick the eyes and the beak cut out on it (on the top side of the body).

Step 3: Stick the inner body part on the main body cut out. Stick the heart cut out on the body as well.

Step 4: Take the wings and the strip cut outs. Make accordion folds on them.

Step 5: Attach the feet cut outs on the accordion folded strips, one foot on each strip. Check if all items are ready.

Step 6: Grab the lunch bag and the prepared items.

Step 7: Stick the penguin body on the front side of the paper lunch bag.

Step 8: Glue the wings on both sides of the lunch bag, better to glue them between the side folds of the lunch bag. Stick the accordion folded feet on the bottom side of the bag, adjacent to the bottom part of the main body of the penguin.

Anytime your child is using scissors make certain that you’re supervising and helping to teach them the proper skill sets that they’ll need to be safe. Talk to them about how it’s important to not run with scissors or to have them pointed at anyone when using them.

Cutting around the eyeballs might be the hardest part but it is such a great way to have your child work on their fine motor skills.

tracing the penguin body

Tracing out the template part is important but a very easy step as well.

tracing the penguin templates

The best way to trace out all the pieces is to do them all once on a piece of paper. That way you can be certain that you’re not forgetting a piece of the craft.

The next few steps require some gluing skills which are great for little hands. Let them work on their hand-eye coordination and take over the glue jobs!
