How do you make bubble art prints?

We’ve actually shared lots of bubble art before and the process is quite similar. Simply take liquid waterc0lors (we love them for their vibrancies) add some water and liquid dish soap to a bowl and mix. You’ll need a straw to blow the bubbles out and then take your paper and press down to catch the colors from the bubbles to make pretty bubble art prints.

Do I have to use watercolor paper to make bubble art?

You could use cardstock paper, but we highly recommend watercolor paper to quickly absorb the liquid from the bubbles and create intricate bubble designs. The last thing you want is a soggy cards! We don’t recommend regular printer paper for this Valentine art project.

What can I do with this Valentine Art?

You can make all sizes of hearts and hole punch smaller ones to make gift tags for Valentine favors or gifts. You can also make larger ones to write a sweet note and hand out as handmade Valentines.

What kind of dish soap can I use?

The dish soap is what helps makes the foamy action of the bubbles so you can make amazing bubble patterns appear on your art! You can use any regular clear liquid dish soap like Method (which we used). Foaming hand wash or soap won’t work as well.

Will liquid watercolors stain my hands?

Yes they will but if you wash them out right away the colors usually come off. If you leave the stains to set it will take a few days to come off over time. Do feel free to use disposable gloves if you don’t want to deal with potential messes.

Instructions

1. Lay out your newspaper or dropcloth on your work surface.

2. Get a round bowl (preferably round as it works best as a shape to capture the bubble prints. An old Tupperware container works well.

3. Add a few squirts of liquid watercolors. We used magenta and red. Add a couple of squirts of dish soap. Fill with some water, enough to swirl around your bowl and make bubbles appear over the top of it.

4. Use a straw and blow OUT not in! Make sure to have adults do this part if your kids could potentially blow in.

5. When the bubbles appear to the top, place your watercolor paper over it. The first print will be faded and not vibrant. Blow and repeat the step above until the paper is well pigmented. You can then cut into any shapes you want. In our case, we actually cut heart shapes first, but you can do it either way.
