This cutting activity is really a lot of fun. Not only does it allow your child to be creative and use their imagination but it also helps them to work on their cutting skills and hand-eye coordination as well.

The great part about doing fun crafts and activities at home is that there is always something educational that can be done along with them.

As you can see, the beard hairs are plentiful on this craft so you can even work on your child’s counting skills while they’re cutting, too! See? There is always room for learning and fun!

What color is a leprechaun’s beard?

Typically, it’s going to be a reddish-orange color which is why we choose this color yarn for this craft.

But if your child really wants a different color, let them use their imagination and have a blue or green beard if they want! The color of the beard really doesn’t matter as much as the completion and interaction of the activity.

What age is this simple leprechaun craft good for?

This is the great part of this easy craft. As long as there is adult supervision, this simple St. Patrick’s Day craft can be for a wide variety of ages. From preschoolers to school-aged children, it’s a fun craft for kids and families to do together.

The closer you get to St. Patrick’s Day, the more this craft needs to be on your radar. Using this as a family craft or activity is a great way to get everyone creating together. Since leprechauns are considered to be “lucky”, the more that you and your family can make, the luckier you’ll be, right?

Crafting together is always fun because even though everyone is working on the same project and craft, it’s always fun to see how different the end results are. It’s a great way to show how imagination and perception can vary.

Although St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish holiday and tradition, kids all over love celebrating as well! Perhaps it’s the promise of gold at the end of the rainbow or catching that crafty leprechaun with a trap.

St. Patrick’s day is not only a fun holiday for kids (and adults) but also a reason to talk to kids about the cultural meaning behind it and do some crafting as well!

This Trim the Beard Leprechaun craft is a fun coloring project and fine motor scissor cutting activity!

How do you make a leprechaun beard?

Grab some coloring pencils, yarn, and scissors and get ready to style your leprechaun beard! As you can see from the pictures below, it’s such a fun St. Patrick’s day activity.

The yarn, in the beginning, will be long for the beard but this is where your child will be able to cut and style as they want.

As they continue to cut, have them hold up their sheet so that the yarn dangles straight. This way they can compare and see what yarn pieces they still need to trim.

Talk to them about what they’re seeing, too. They’ll notice that the yarn pieces are all different lengths so it will then be up to them to cut and make them uniform.
