With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, we decided to try some easy handprint crafts to get into the spirit. If you haven’t noticed we LOVE handprint crafts around here and do them year round for every major holiday! For St. Patrick’s Day, we made a simple rainbow handprint that looks like it’s diving into a pot of gold, a cute leprechaun with an orange handprint beard, and a shamrock with a little handprint right in the middle. It really is the cutest clover in the patch!

This festive handprint art turned out to be such a sweet way to spend the afternoon and a cute way to decorate the home for St. Patrick’s Day. Plus, we’ll have these little leprechaun handprints to look back on, which is always a bonus. If you’re looking for a laid-back activity with the kids, this might be a fun one to try out. Make sure to grab our printable St. Patrick’s Day templates to make this an easy craft.

Pot of Gold with Rainbow Handprint

The magic of a rainbow leading to a pot of gold is a tale as old as time, and capturing it through art is always magical for the kids! They will love painting their hands in the colors of the rainbow to make an enchanting rainbow handprint over the pot of gold!

Leprechaun with Orange Beard Handprint

Leprechauns, are the mischievous fairies of Irish folklore and always fun to catch! For this, we painted the hand green to resemble the leprechaun’s iconic beard. You can add a paper nose at the end which makes it look more like a leprechaun gnome which I think is adorable!

Shamrock Handprint

The shamrock, Ireland’s most renowned symbol so we had to include it! Simply paint the child’s hand a contrasting color to the shamrock. I recommend a light color like light green or white. You’ll always remember your kids as the cutest clover in the patch!

How to make St. Patrick’s Day Handprint Craft

1. Print out the templates. I recommend using cardstock or watercolor printer paper to absorb the paint best.

2. Paint your hand in the color indicated in the sample designs with a paint brush using non-toxic paint or washable paint like tempera or acrylic. I recommend using a foam brush which is soft and won’t leave bristles. You can also use washable ink pads.

3. Stamp your hand over the intended shape per design.

4. For the Leprechaun, cut a nose out of colored paper and paste onto the “beard!”

Handprint Art Tips:

  • Prepare your workspace: Have all your materials ready and cover your crafting area to manage the inevitable mess.
  • Embrace the Imperfections: Each handprint will be unique, adding character and charm to the artwork.
  • Seal the Memories: Consider laminating or framing the finished pieces to preserve them for years to come.
