These beautiful rainbow crystals require just two ingredients to make and result in beautiful colors. The kids made them in just about 5 minutes. They are so many fun ways to play with them. Scoop them, store them in pretty layered jars, or even make some fun art with them. We ended up doing a pretty rainbow salt painting with them.

How to Make Rainbow Crystals – Materials:
– Rock salt (the type you use for making ice cream)
– Food coloring
*You’ll also need plastic sandwich bags
Add rock salt to a plastic sandwich bag. We used about 1/3 cup to each bag. Add drops of food coloring inside the bags and mix bag with your hands until you get the desired color you want. You’re done!
The colors are so vibrant on these huge rock salt which absorb the colors well. You want to let them dry a bit before handling.
They make pretty rainbow layers in jars to hand out as gifts. St. Patrick’s Day favors perhaps?
My kids loved spreading out the crystals and just scooping them into bowls and playing with them. This project was right up our alley, easy enough for the kids to make with lots of colorful fun!
