EASY DIRT CRUMB DINOSAUR CAKE

This post is sponsored by Universal Pictures at Walmart. All opinions expressed are our own.

As fall quickly approaches and weather starts to get crisper, family time moves from pool parties and outdoor barbecues to indoor activities.

We know it can be more difficult to find things to do together as a family indoors when it starts to get darker and cooler outside.

One of our favorite fall time family activities to do together is to host a family movie night.

It’s such a great excuse to get in some comfy clothes, snuggle up under a blanket, make some yummy snacks and spend some quality time together.

When we heard that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was set to release on DVD on September 18th, we knew that it was the perfect excuse to host the ultimate family movie night!

To create the ultimate dinosaur themed family night, we created a dirt crumb dinosaur cake topped with toy dinosaurs. It is so easy to make and the kids will love helping to create this yummy cake to enjoy while watching the movie.

My son especially is a dinosaur fanatic and jumped at the chance to help me make a dinosaur cake!

Before starting the ultimate movie night, you need the movie of course! So first, head to Walmart to grab the exclusive Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom gift set.

The gift set comes with several bonus features as well as 2-pack set of Funko Pocket Pop! Keychains! The kids will be so excited to have the fun keychains to play with while enjoying the movie.

After you get your DVD set, you are ready to make the dirt crumb dinosaur cake!

It’s so easy to make yet looks like you spent hours creating a dinosaur habitat. This is a great cake to make because you can easily change and adapt it to your needs. Make one for a dinosaur birthday party, or even make a few changes to turn it into a jungle themed cake!

The secret to keeping it easy is buying a plain iced cake already frosted from your local supermarket. Or you can easily make one using any cake mix. Keep reading to find out how to make one with your kids!

EASY DIRT CRUMB DINOSAUR CAKE – INGREDIENTS AND SUPPLIES:

  • Single layer cake with frosting (you can buy a plain one at your local grocery store or make one from scratch, or a cake mix). We recommend chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.
  • Small toy dinosaurs and habitat like plastic trees and leaves (wash thoroughly with soap and water and dry)
  • Chocolate covered dried fruits (for dinosaur “eggs”)
  • Crushed chocolate cookies
  • Crushed graham cracker cookies

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1. If you are using a store bought layer cake, simply transfer to your container to fit (slice off any excess to fit your pan) or make the cake from scratch or a box mix, cool and frost.

Step 2. Crush your chocolate cookies and graham cracker cookies separately, add to a small bowl. This will be your “dirt.”

Step 3. Add your chocolate covered fruits into a small bowl and your toy dinosaurs in a separate container.

Step 4. Ask you child to decorate his dirt crumb dinosaur cake. Slice and enjoy! The tiny dinosaurs on top can act as party favors for kids to take home if you are doing this for a party.

We all just loved how the dino cake turned out! Not only was it delicious but it was the perfect way to celebrate watching the movie. My son had so much fun helping to make the cake and he even built an entire dinosaur scene to go along with it!

If you are having your own movie night at home, this is a great way to incorporate play into your evening.

Kids will love using their imaginations to create this cake. We hope you will make your own version of this easy dessert next time you have your own family movie night!

The Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom DVD set will release on September 18th at Walmart.
