For my daughter’s pre-K class this year, I wanted to incorporate a Halloween favor that would also encourage letter writing since she is at the age where she’s practicing writing and sounding out words.

I thought it’d be cute to cut out pumpkin shapes out of chalkboard contact paper and have her write her classmates’ names on them using a chalkboard marker. This is a simple favor that requires minimal materials and is also fun and educational!

Are you doing Halloween class favors this year?

Halloween Chalkboard Pumpkin Tag Favors – Materials:

1. 3″x5″ muslin bags

2. Chalk marker

3. Chalkboard contact paper

4. Pumpkin template

5. Scissors

1. Make your pumpkin template – I searched for clip art of pumpkins, resized a shape I liked on the computer to fit the bag’s width and printed out on cardstock. I then used that as a template to trace and cut out multiple pumpkins on the chalkboard contact paper.

2. Have your child write out her classmates’ name on each pumpkin tag using the chalkboard marker. It helps to have a list of her classmates’ names printed out in large block letters so she can reference them while writing.

3. Peel the contact paper off and stick onto the bags

You could replicate this idea as a party favor bag for any special occasion or party – just search for another template to cut out to fit your theme. Or use the many varieties of paper punch cutters available which is much easier – no scissors required! You can also stick on paper favor boxes instead of bags.
