We love the art technique of paint scraping. You can do it with a squeegee (see our Easter Egg Art and Rainbow Squeegee Art) or anything with a hard edge like scraps of cardboard, ruler or thick cardstock.
We recently made vibrant Christmas Tree Art with this paint scraping technique and love how each tree popped with colors.
We’ve provided free printable Christmas Tree templates in fun shapes (download below) so kids can make all kinds of Christmas Trees.
These would make a beautiful school art project, or festive holiday decor for your home. You can punch holes and make a holiday garland or just add removable adhesive to the back and hang up on the walls.

It also helps to have a paint drop cloth (we like this reusable canvas paint cloth) or something to cover your work surface like newspaper. We also like placing sheets of parchment over each tree once scraped to minmize the mess.
Instructions (watch the video above post or follow below):
Step 1. Lay a paint drop cloth or newspaper over a table to protect your surface.
Step 2. Print out the free printable Christmas Tree Templates. Cut out shapes and use as templates to trace over watercolor paper. Cut out the shapes.
Step 3. Add drops of paint onto each tree – experiment with different paint colors.
Step 4. Gently scrape paint slowly from one end to the next with a piece of cardboard. Wipe off excess paint and scrape the other tree corners, also utilizing all edges of the cardboard for a cleaner scrape.
