We recently visited a fall festival with the kids and participated in their corn harvest. There were lots of fallen and dried corn husks on the ground which we picked up to make a fun craft with later on. We decided to make giant flower corn husks and had some leftover to make a decorative headband. This project is a fun fall art activity for the kids and requires very little materials, most of which you probably already have on hand.
Corn Husk Flower Painting – Materials:
– Dried corn husks
– Paint (we used these bright neon tempera paints), paint brushes
– Chalk markers (we love these Funchalk ones)
– Hot glue gun
– Large popsicle sticks
– Headband (optional if you want to make the decorative headband)
Instructions:
You’ll want to first hot glue your corn husks together to form a flower pattern (or semicircle for the headband). Then just paint away! After the paint has dried, You can create fun designs using the chalk markers.
For the flowers, you can decorate your popsicle sticks with the markers and hot glue two of them together and to the base of your flower to form a stem.
For the headband, simply use a plain headband and hot glue your corn husks on.
The kids had a blast painting away! The flowers would also make beautiful wall decor as well (without the stem). And how adorable is the headband for a fun costume or pretend play?
