Happy New Year! Are you counting down with the kids this year? We’ve got a fun kids’ art project to get you in the celebratory mood.

These Shooting Star Banners are festive for kids to make to celebrate new year’s eve. Each one is unique, just as a star should be.

All you need are a few simple art materials and paper to get started.

New Year Shooting Star Banner – Materials:

Watercolor Paper (or a thicker paper for the stars you can paint or use markers on)
– White copy paper for the banner
Hot glue
– Sticks (you can use dowels if your stars are big like ours to support the banner or straws if you make smaller banners)
– Assorted art supplies (we especially like these paint markers and watercolor pens)

Instructions:

Step 1. Draw stars on your watercolor paper and decorate with paint markers, watercolors, etc. You can also glue on some glitter like we did for extra sparkle! Cut out your stars and set aside.

Step 2. Tape two pieces of white paper together and have kids write “Happy New Year” using more art supplies. Make sure to leave white space on the right and left of the sign as your stars will go there.

Step 3. Accordion fold your new year banner sign and hot glue your two stars to the end.

Step 4. Hot glue your sticks or straws to the stars. Pull your sign inwards and out to reveal the festive “Happy New Year” sign.

What a fun way to wish someone a Happy New Year!
