We are a color-loving household as you can tell from the many rainbow projects we share on the site. Learning colors with little ones is fun when explored via bright and vibrant books! Here are the top 5 color books my kids love and read over and again. These are wonderful starter books to explore and learn colors for preschoolers, although my kids (older now) still return to read these favorites.

What are your favorite color books for preschoolers?

Disclaimer: although I wrote this book, I stand by the message and colorful illustrations by the talented Yuliya Gwilym. Follow Little White Arch along his journey as he ponders if he can be another color. Along the way he meets many colorful characters and realizes he can be more than one color. A lovely story about love, kindness, and acceptance.

From one of our favorite book artist for littles, Herve Tullet, this simple yet interactive book is engaging for children as they are prompted to mix, shake and create patterns of colors.

Pantone Color Puzzles (by Pantone)
Who better to open up a child’s world to colors than the expert on colors, Pantone This sturdy board book features puzzles by colors with fun illustrations that appeal to preschoolers like animals and shapes.

Elmer (by David McKee)
It’s hard to resist this classic tale of the beloved Elmer the Elephant by David McKee. Elmer dazzles with his patchwork colors and shows children the power of individuality and belief that being unique is something to celebrate.
