DIY KANDINSKY CIRCLES FELT BOARD: ARTIST PROJECT FOR KIDS

The kids and I have been studying the work of Kandinisky and especially love his famed “Colour Study Squares and Concentric Circles” art.

Here’s an interactive felt board you can easily make for some Kandinsky inspired art where kids can make their own concentric circles to mix and match over and again!

Not only is this a fun artist-inspired project, it’s also a great activity for practicing scissor cutting skills. You have to cut out lots of felt!

Kandinsky Circles Felt Board – Materials:

Felt in various colors
Posterboard
– One large felt piece large enough to cover your posterboard
Hot glue gun
– Ruler, black marker
– Scissors
– 3 round shapes (large, medium, small)

Instructions:

Step 1. Make your felt board by covering your posterboard with one large piece of felt. Hot glue the back to secure the sides and corners.

Step 2. Find 3 circle objects (large, medium and small) that will fit into your square felt pieces. We measured 5″ x 5″ squares for our board.

Step 3. Have your child trace and cut out felt squares and circles in various colors of felt.

Step 4. Now the fun begins! You can lay out your squares and circles in different colors in as many variations as you want. Then transfer them to the felt board (felt sticks to felt so no need for glue or adhesives).

Or secure your posterboard on the wall with some poster tape and design directly on the board!

This is a simple interactive art project for littles that has so many fun and colorful possibilities as well as an intro to one of the greatest artists in history.
