This button Christmas tree craft is a fun threading activity for kids and great for practicing fine motor skills.

We were inspired by this version but added some kid-friendly touches like big buttons, a soft craft sheet to work on, and two ways kids can work on their fine motor skills and stitching.

Watch the video above or follow below for the instructions.

Button Christmas Tree Craft – Materials:

Large buttons
Embroidery thread
– Needle
Craft foam paper or you can use felt
– Tape
Hot Glue

Instructions:

Step 1: Use your tape to line up the shape of a tree over your foam paper.

Step 2: Add your buttons where you want to place them over the tape.

Step 3: Use hot glue to stick your buttons on your craft foam paper or felt. Remove the tape.

Step 4: Method 1 (for younger kids) have them wrap embroidery thread around the buttons and follow them in the shape of a tree. Method 2 (for older kids) practice threading/stitching with a needle, through the button holes.

You can hang up your button Christmas tree art when you’re done!
