There's something adventurous and exciting about a hot air balloon ride -have you ever been on one? Kids are fascinated by flight of any kind, and this is no exception. These hot air balloon projects will let them indulge their fantasies of flying while staying safely on the ground. We've got your traditional hot air balloon mobiles as well as some new twists on the theme - come fly away with us!

Cardboard sphere balloons (via On My Honor)
Kids will love painting these cardboard spheres with bold hot air balloon stripes. They may need a parent to help them assemble the basket, but they'll definitely take pride in the finished product.

DIY hot air balloon party decor (via Flax and Twine)
Lovely party decor for a kid's birthday party. We dig how Flax and Twine used these tissue honeycomb hot air balloons to lend a whimsical touch to a sweet Mother's Day brunch.

Photo booth DIY (via Oh Happy Day)
Learn how to make an amazing hot air balloon backdrop (with a real balloon and a kid-sized basket) for unforgettable birthday party photos.

Paper lantern hot air balloon (via Craft and Creativity)
Paper lanterns make gorgeous hot air balloons in this decoupage project. The detailing in this tutorial is really lovely to see.

Egg balloons (via Snowdrop and Company)
Using a plastic Easter egg as the balloon is a clever idea. You can fill the balloon with candy for a terrific party favor.

Baby mobile (via Persia Lou)
These woven paper balloons catch the breeze well, and we love the classic, subdued color palette this blogger chose.

Sun Catchers (via Suzy’s Artsy-Craftsy Sitcom)
Turning burnt out lightbulbs into colorful, sun-catching hot air balloons? Now that’s upcycling- it’s a must-see tutorial.

Felt balloons and clouds mobile (via How Joyful)
This project offers a template for three different sizes of hot air balloons, and the result is totally adorable. It requires a little hand-sewing, but it’s well worth it.
